Nightmare on Phillip Street 2026: Halloween Photo Booth in Balmain, Sydney

Balmain turned up in costume, we brought the spooky scenes, and Phillip Street gave us a Halloween we won't forget in a hurry.

On Saturday 31 October 2026, Nightmare on Phillip Street drew people from Balmain and around Sydney out for Halloween night. Simple Snaps donated the photo booth and two attendants to run it for five hours, free for everyone. More than 250 people stepped in front of the camera, and the costumes were brilliant.

Halloween in Balmain

We saw clowns, cats, vampires and at least a few Vikings. Between the face paint, the dramatic outfits and some very committed poses, the booth became the place to show off how much work had gone into getting dressed up.

That's what we love about a local Halloween night. People come together, and they go home with a photo of it. Some guests came to look genuinely terrifying. Others just wanted a fun picture with their mates. Both worked.

Real guests, AI backgrounds

Our Halloween booth photographs real guests and places them in AI-generated digital backgrounds. Your costume stays the focus, and the scene behind you sets the mood.

In the gallery you'll find blood-red moons, haunted gates, misty cemeteries and candlelit gothic rooms. None of these were physical sets on the night, and some photos have extra creative edits.

Head to the Halloween gallery to see the looks, from Circus of Fear and Cat Crew to Viking Haunt and Midnight Ghost.

Thank you, Phillip Street

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, dressed up and jumped in the booth. More than 250 of you made it a great night for us, and the creativity from Balmain and across Sydney was a joy to see.

A good costume takes time and imagination. A photo means you still have it after the face paint washes off and the cobwebs come down.

Thanks to the sponsors

A local planning committee runs Nightmare on Phillip Street, and local businesses pay for it. This year that was Rosemary Chen, Cobden Hayson, Walls Pharmacy, Balmain Bread, Leray Gymnastics, Christopher Jordan Architecture, Dry Dock Hotel and Parisi Australia.

Universal Candy supplied every lolly and those epic games stations, which was very generous of them. MAZ DJ played the bangers, HBuild pitched in, and the "terrifying teens" on the lolly stations made a few of us jump on the way past. We were proud to donate the photo booth, and we'd happily do it again next year.
